The Ethiopia–Djibouti Female at Makerspace Project, funded by the European Union (EU), is pleased to announce the Women Innovators Competition, an initiative aimed at encouraging women to develop and showcase innovative ideas that can address real-world challenges and create positive impact.
As part of the project, five Makerspaces have been established in Ethiopia and one in Djibouti. Each Makerspace focuses on a specific thematic area and provides a supportive environment where women can access opportunities for creativity, hands-on learning, prototyping, collaboration, and innovation.
An Opportunity for Women Innovators
The Women Innovators Competition provides a platform for women with innovative ideas to bring their concepts forward, develop them further, and demonstrate their potential to contribute to social and economic development.
The competition welcomes women innovators, entrepreneurs, students, researchers, makers, and others with promising innovative ideas. Participants are encouraged to present solutions that address challenges in their communities, introduce new products or services, improve existing solutions, or create meaningful social and economic value.
Connecting Ideas with Makerspaces
The established Makerspaces play an important role in supporting the development of innovative ideas. Through access to appropriate facilities, tools, knowledge, skills, and collaborative environments, the Makerspaces provide opportunities for innovators to move from ideas and concepts toward practical solutions.
With five Makerspaces in Ethiopia and one in Djibouti, the project is contributing to a stronger innovation ecosystem and creating more opportunities for women to participate in technology, entrepreneurship, making, and problem-solving.
